Olympic Bow | Olympic Recurve Archery and Its Accessories

The Olympic recurve bow is a bow that comes from the traditional recurve. It consists of a metal body to which limbs (upper and lower) are attached. The main characteristic is that the string rests on the curve of the limb. Due to the “S” shape of the limbs, it is called a recurve bow. It is commonly used both in barebow recurve archery (without accessories) and in Olympic mode, where we find Olympic recurve bows with sights, stabilizers, clickers, arrow rests, and other accessories that allow the archer to have greater control over the shot of the arrow.

Olympic Bow Riser

The riser of an Olympic recurve bow is usually made of metal, such as aluminum. It typically features a series of holes that allow the attachment of various accessories to the bow and has ILF or screw-type anchoring systems (in the case of beginner bows) to secure the limbs to the riser.

Limbs (Upper and Lower) for Olympic Bow

The limbs are usually made of composite materials such as fiberglass or carbon, combined with wood, although other types of materials can also be found for this type of bow.

Carbon Arrows

The arrows used for Olympic archery typically have shafts made of carbon, although aluminum or aluminum/carbon combinations can also be found. The arrow tips are made of precision metal tips, and the fletchings and nocks are usually made from plastic materials.

Sight for Recurve Bow

The sight for the Olympic recurve bow typically comes with a mark or pin for aiming and is adjustable depending on the distance to the target. We can also consider other factors, such as wind deviation, when adjusting our sight.

Clicker for Olympic Bow

The clicker on an Olympic recurve bow is a piece that notifies the archer when they have drawn the bow with the arrow to its limit. The characteristic “click” sound alerts the shooter that it’s time to release the arrow, as the bow’s draw length is correct. This clicker is used only when the arrows are cut to the archer’s draw length and once the proper shooting stance has been established. It is not recommended for use during the beginner phase of archery.

Arrow Rests

The arrow rest is the accessory where the arrow shaft rests when preparing to take the shot with the bow. It is located in the window of the bow’s riser and allows the use of artificial or plastic fletchings, as the arrow rest supports them.

V-Bar and Long or Central Stabilizer and Short Stabilizer

These are competitive-type stabilizers and are approximately 50 centimeters in length when mounted. These stabilizers help distribute the forces acting on the bow at the moment of the shot and assist in reducing the shock to the archer during the shot. There are three parts: the V-bar, the long stabilizer, and the short stabilizer, along with weights to adjust the stabilizer.

String

Strings are always made of high resistance materials, such as modern fibers like Dacron or Kevlar, and can also be found in steel. It is important to note that for beginner bows with beginner limbs, Dacron strings should be used, as they are more elastic and won’t damage a bow that is not designed for high performance.

Additionally, the thickness of the string, in threads, should be considered, as they can be more or less fine, which will affect the grip of the arrow nock. The grip must be appropriate, as the nock, once attached to the string, should not slide around or be attached too tightly.

Waist Quiver

In Olympic archery, a waist quiver is used, made of plastic materials suitable for this purpose. The quiver typically comes with 2 or 3 tubes for the arrows, as well as a series of pockets to store any items we may need, such as an arrow puller, finger tab, glove, fistmele ruler, etc.

Finger Tab for Olympic Bow

The finger tab is an important part of archery equipment as it allows us to draw the string and release the arrow without hurting or irritating our fingers.

Arm Guard

Arm guards are necessary to protect the part of the arm where the string tends to brush against during the release in archery. The arm guards available today are typically made of synthetic fibers, plastic materials, or even metal.

Chest Guard

The chest guard for archery is a protective device worn on one of the breasts to shield it from potential rubbing against the string. It is more commonly used by women than by men and is typically made from synthetic materials like nylon and other suitable plastic fibers.

Wrist Sling for Recurve Bow

The wrist sling in archery is used to secure the bow to the hand. It ensures that the bow doesn’t slip from the hand and fall to the ground when shot, due to the vibrations that may occur.

Transport Bags and Backpacks

An essential item is the transport gear for the bow, arrows, and all the accessories, which can be stored in a bag or backpack designed to carry archery equipment securely and comfortably.

Bow Stand

The bow stand is used to securely rest the bow, allowing it to be protected from scratches and moisture that could occur if it were placed on the ground.
