Where can archery be practiced?

Archery should be practiced in approved spaces and designated shooting areas that have the necessary permits and studies to allow archery to be legally practiced at that location. Places to practice archery can include local archery clubs, galleries, and archery schools that are certified as approved archery spaces.

It is strictly forbidden, under penalty of sanction and confiscation of the bow (a weapon), to shoot in spaces that are NOT certified, such as private homes, fields, or any other urban or rural space that is not prepared and approved for archery practice.

Where can I find an archery school or club to learn?

Virtually every city or town has an archery sports club where you can learn and practice archery legally and safely. There, you’ll find certified instructors and good companions who will teach you and support you in everything you need to practice the sport.

Do I need a license or federation membership to practice archery? What is the price?

Yes, to practice archery as a sport, you need to be a member of the RFETA (Royal Spanish Archery Federation) or the archery federation of your autonomous community. This is achieved by being a member of an archery club, taking an initiation course, and applying for a federation license through your archery club. The cost of the federation license is around 60€ and must be renewed every year if you want to continue practicing the sport.

Can archery be practiced in fields or forests?

No. A field or forest is not an approved space unless it is prepared for the practice of this sport and has the necessary permits and inspections. If a space is not approved, archery cannot be practiced in these areas.

What is the best bow to start archery?

The best bow to start archery is a low-power bow, suitable for the experience and strength of the beginner archer. Typically, if you have never shot before, an ideal bow would be around 20 pounds, depending on your physique. The best beginner bows are the ones we show below in a kit format, with all the necessary equipment to start shooting. These types of bows are usually detachable with interchangeable limbs, so if you need to increase the power, you can do so easily and economically by just buying limbs with more pounds of power, keeping the rest of the equipment.
