Permits for Archery Practice, Transport, and Possession of a Bow

What is needed to practice archery?

There are two main permits and obligations for practicing archery or transporting a bow. On one hand, there is the federative card that every archer must have, and on the other, there is the transport card for bows. This is necessary because the bow is considered a weapon, and as such, certain permits and credentials are required, although they are less restrictive than those for firearms.

To practice archery, you must have the sports card issued by the Royal Spanish Archery Federation (RFETA), which allows you to practice the sport after completing an archery course. This card will be issued by the regional federations that are part of the national federation.

If an international license with a visa or authorization is needed, you can apply to the RFETA, depending on the statutes of the relevant international federations.

For the transport of a bow, you must possess a bow transport card, usually issued by the shops or establishments that sell archery equipment.

How to obtain the sports card or archery license?

To obtain the sports card, you must complete a course of approximately 15 to 30 hours (depending on each club), where you will learn the basic archery techniques as well as the safety measures to use when practicing the sport. Afterward, you can apply for the card from the RFETA using the corresponding form with the support of the instructor who taught your archery course, and always through a club.

You should check with the club you register with, as the price changes every year, as does the cost of the initiation course, which varies depending on the number of course hours.

How much does the bow transport license or card cost?

The bow transport card costs 20€ and is issued by the shop or establishment that sells the bows.

Where can I find the full regulations or download the forms to obtain the different archery licenses?

All forms, documents, and circulars, as well as other official documents, can be found and downloaded on the official RFETA website.
